Our Special Areas team has been working on something super exciting for the Winter Olympics. Students have been screen-printing their own t-shirts in Art, practicing hockey in Gym, researching Italy in Library, and rehearsing “This Land is Your Land” in Music.
All of this will lead to our Newport Intermediate School Olympics next week. Families are welcome to join us during your child’s Special Areas time.
Schedule of Events

-Tuesday, February 24th: Hockey Tournament Round 1
-Wednesday, February 25th: Hockey Tournament Round 2

🏀 Huge shoutout to our 6th & 7th grade girls basketball team for an amazing win last night! They brought the energy and earned a 28–10 victory over RA Jones Middle School. We are SO proud of the way they worked together, played with confidence, and represented our school!
🎶 Music class has been buzzing too! Students have been playing instruments more and more this week. Students in 4th grade learned to play Hot Cross Buns on the xylophone and 6th grade band on brass instruments. It has been so fun to see them learning new skills and making music together in class!
🌟 We also wrapped up the week by celebrating our Student of the Month and Staff of the Month! We recognized them here at school AND had the honor of celebrating them again at our board meeting. Their leadership, positivity, and hard work make a big difference every day.
We love seeing our students shine in so many ways! 💙👏

✅ Shout out to our students who are working hard to meet their classroom behavior goals. When students set a goal and stick with it, it shows real growth, and we are proud of the progress happening every day.
➗ Fifth grade has been on a roll! Students have had a productive week practicing math facts, learning through interactive games in music class, and completing their first Socratic Seminar in social studies. They used evidence and respectful discussion to share their perspectives on settlers coming to America.
🏀 And a big shout out to our 6th grade girls and boys for representing us in their basketball game this week! Keep working hard and supporting each other.
We love seeing our students learning, growing, and showing pride in themselves and our school! #WildcatPride ⭐️

This week we’ve been celebrating learning, growth, and community in the best ways:
🎄 The Grinch stopped by to spread some holiday fun and smiles for our students.
🏆 We hosted a PBIS Reward Day, and our students showed exactly why they earned it—great choices and great attitudes!
🤝 Our Adopt-a-Class community partners visited classrooms to teach students about different careers and inspire big dreams.
🌟 A huge congratulations to Mrs. Childers, who was recognized as Teacher of the Week on Channel 12—so well-deserved!
📌 We also welcomed central office visitors who spent time with students goal setting and talking about what it takes to grow.
📈 And speaking of growth… we’re proud to share positive i-Ready growth in both reading and math across every grade level!
🧪 Our 6th graders have been hard at work, too, creating parachutes for an egg drop experiment, using creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving.
👏 And a huge THANK YOU to all of our parent volunteers who came in to help this week! Your time, support, and partnership make a real difference for our students and staff—we appreciate you so much.
We are so proud of our students and grateful for our staff, families, and community partners who make Newport Intermediate such a special place. Great things are happening here every single day! ❤️🖤🐾

Thank you,
NIS Admin & Staff
This year, we are especially grateful for the teamwork, the trust, and the shared commitment to helping every child succeed. Together, we are building strong systems, stronger relationships, and even stronger opportunities for our students.
This month we are especially thankful for experiences we gain through the Adopt-A-Class partnerships, NKU basketball games, PBIS parties, Principal Advisory Elections, Turkey Dinners in the cafeteria, Student of the Month Nominations, and 67 DAYS OF SCHOOL!
We hope everyone has a safe, warm, and joyful holiday season. 🍂✨

Family Holiday Poster Contest! 🎨✨
Families, keep an eye out — students are bringing home a piece of posterboard either today or tomorrow to work on over Thanksgiving break.
Your family can turn that posterboard into a festive poster celebrating any December holiday you enjoy — Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Las Posadas, Nochebuena, Three Kings Day, New Year’s, or your own traditions.
Use anything you already have at home — glitter, beads, ribbon, tinsel, buttons, stickers, fabric scraps… anything goes!
Please send the finished posters back after break so we can fill our hallways with everyone’s creativity and holiday spirit. ❤️

Our 3rd graders proudly performed the Star-Spangled Banner, with students from NPS, at the city building this morning, and their voices filled the lawn with pride and joy 🎶
Later in the day, our 3rd and 4th grade students had the incredible opportunity to meet author Shawn Pryor, who inspired our young readers and writers with his stories, creativity, and passion for books. 📚✍️
We are so proud of our students and grateful for the experiences that help them shine both inside and outside the classroom. 🌟
